Mobile Clinic

The Infinite Myanma Metta Foundation (IMMF) Multi-disciplinary Specialist’s Mobile Team Launched a Field Trip to Putao, Kachin State-the northern most frontier district of Myanma – on 10 to 12 June, 2016. The journey commenced from Mandalay International Airport at 9:00 AM- transited at Myit Kyi Na and landed to Putao airport at about 12:30 PM.

The IMMF Specialist’s Mobile Team for Puta-O Trip consisted total of 24 Medical Doctors. Most of the members were keen in their respective fields including Professors, Associate Professor, Senior Consultants, Consultants, MRCP Physicians,  MRCS Surgeon,  Senior Researcher, MSc holders and Senior General Practitioners. The spouses, sons, daughters and relatives of the team-members also Strengthened the Team in the filed. Moreover, Physician, Surgeon, Civil Assistant Surgeon and staff of Puta-O District Hospital enthusiastically collaborated in this reminiscent field work.

Starting form 2:00 PM, 10.6.2016, Specialist’s Mobile Team launched the OPD clinic with separate rooms for each and every discipline.

The Specialist’s Mobile Team treated a total of 794 our-patients -253 males and 541 females. Moreover, the physicians conducted a ward-round in the medical ward of Puta-O District Hospital and gave the necessary specialist’s treatments. Furthermore, the Surgeon’s Team – consisted of Professor of Anesthesia, Senior Consultant Pediatric Anesthetist, Senior Consultant Surgeon, MRCS Surgeon, ENT Surgeon, and Consultant Surgeon of Puta-O Hospital operated a total of (22) Surgical operations- Gastro-Jejunostomy operation, herniotomy and herniorraphy operations, Jeboley’s operations for Hydrocoeles, nevum excision, hemangioma excision, Sebacious cyst excision and avulsion, tongue-tie excision, ear-lobe keloid excision and circumcision for phymosis cases-at the Operation Theater of Puta-O District Hospital.

Findings

According to the personal interviews with respective consultants of the specialties, we would like to report the following findings;

(1)Medical cases: Essential hypertension was the most common disease in this area. However, ECG confirmed Coronary Heart Disease and Type II Diabetes Mellitus-Random Blood Test(>180 mg/dl)- were relatively rare.

(2)Surgical cases: Because of the unavailability of Pediatric Anesthetist, Children with surgical conditions such as, inguinal hernia, hemangioma, cleft-lip and palate were left un-operated. Moreover, complicated surgical cases-who were unaffordable to go to referred tertiary specialist hospital-such as cancer autrum of stomach was also waiting and seeing the progress on intravenous lines. IMMF Team in collaboration with residential consultant surgeon of Puta-O hospital identified the cases and operated most of them during this visit.

(3)OG cases: fortunately, no OG emergency was identified during the stay. High parity of 6-12 children was found to be a significant finding in Puta-O area.

(4)Pediatric cases: significant findings included three cases of Rickets and three cases of cerebral palsy among OPD cases.

(5)Orthopedic cases: Prolapsed Intervertebral Disc(PID) and Osteoarthritis of knee joints were most prevalent orthopedic conditions in this area.

(6)ENT cases: High prevalence of Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM) was found as a significant finding.

(7)Skin cases: fungal infection corporis and dermatitis were found to be the most prevalent skin problems in this area.

(8)Eye case: impaired vision was reported as the most common eye problems among over 40 year age group.

Conclusion

The Infinite Myanma Metta Foundation (IMMF) Multi-disciplinary Specialist’s Mobile Team Trip to Putao, Kachin State comprised of the largest members covered most of the disciplines and contributed a Comprehensive Health Care Services to Northern Most Frontier Area of Myanmar.
